Flora Rose Prize: Nominations are being sought for the 1999 Flora Rose Prize. The cash prize is awarded to a Cornell junior or senior who, in the words of the donor, "shall demonstrate the greatest promise for contributing to the growth and self-fulfillment of future generations." Letters of nomination may come from any member of the Cornell community and should be sent to Sharon Tregaskis, Admissions, Student and Career Services, 170 Martha Van Rensselaer Hall, by Monday, April 12. All additional materials must be submitted by the nominee by April 21.

Arts awards: The Cornell Council for the Arts, in cooperation with the Cultural Endeavors Committee of the Cornell University Council, is seeking nominations of undergraduate students who have demonstrated notable achievements in the arts. Established in 1997 as an annual citation, two awards are given to an alumnus/a and an undergraduate student. The alumnus receiving the award in 1999-2000 is landscape architect and designer of the FDR Memorial Lawrence Halprin. The CCA would like nominations of undergraduate students worthy to receive the 1999-2000 Student Award for Excellence and Exceptional Activity in the Arts. Nominations and supporting letters from Cornell deans, directors, department chairs or representing faculty are due April 12 in the office of the Council for the Arts, 341 Caldwell Hall. The nominees should be informed by their nominators to meet with Anna Geske, executive director of the CCA, and make available to her before April 12 a resume, examples or a portfolio of artistic work and a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with that work. Award selections by the committee will be made in May.

Signal on Route 366: It's flashing now, but beginning Wednesday, April 14, a new traffic signal on Route 366, east of campus, will become operative. Officials at the New York State Department of Transportation say the three-color signal device will help reduce the number of accidents at the busy intersection where Caldwell and Palm roads intersect with Route 366 (Dryden Road).
