Notices should be sent to arrive 10 days prior to publication and should include the name and telephone number of a person who can be called if there are questions.

Notices should also include the subheading of the calendar in which the item should appear.

Registration
* English test: The English Placement Test will be held in Room D, Goldwin Smith Hall, on Monday, Aug. 23, at 9:30 a.m. Entering international students with a TOEFL score below 600 must take this examination.
* Fall 1999 registration: Registration is in the Field House, Monday, Aug. 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for new students and 1 to 5 p.m. for continuing students with "holds." All new students must go to the Field House. Unregistered continuing students clear bursar holds by going to the Field House, 1-5 p.m. For other holds, go to the office where the hold was placed, then go to the Field House. Continuing students who clear university obligations by Aug. 13 will be registered and do not go to the Field House. Check "Just the Facts" after Aug. 15 to determine if you are registered.
* Course enrollment: Course enrollment forms are available at graduate field offices and the Graduate School, 150 Caldwell Hall. Course enrollment dates: Aug. 24-Sept. 17. Return completed form in person to the Graduate School. Students who completed electronic precourse enrollment last spring do not complete a course enrollment form; if there is a change in their schedules, they complete a Course Drop and Add form. Students no longer taking courses must enroll for thesis/dissertation research.
Degree
* Degree deadline: Friday, Aug. 20, is the deadline for completing all requirements for an August degree, including submitting the thesis/ dissertation to the Graduate School.
* Thesis adviser office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Hours are on a walk-in basis only; no appointments are made. The office will be closed Aug. 23-27.
Financial
* Partial tuition fellowship: Self-supporting doctoral students are eligible for partial tuition fellowships if they entered the doctoral program in spring 1995 or earlier, have six semesters registered in the Graduate School and have passed the A-Exam. Completed applications are due at the Graduate Fellowship Office, 155 Caldwell Hall, by Aug. 27 for fall 1999 semester.
* Conference transportation grant applications are due at the Graduate Fellowship Office, Caldwell Hall, by Sept. 1 for October conferences. Applications received after this date cannot be considered; grants are awarded to registered graduate students invited to present papers or posters. Application forms are at graduate field offices and on the web http://ww.gradschool.cornell.edu/grad/fellowships/intro.html.
* Fulbright grants for study abroad for 2000-2001: Applications and information booklets are available at the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, 170 Uris Hall; 255-6370; http://www.einaudi.cornell.edu/unding. Applicants must have earned a bachelor's degree prior to September 2000 and be a U.S. citizen. Grants cover travel, living costs and tuition at overseas universities. The Fulbright adviser, Professor Milton Esman, will conduct an informational meeting; contact the center for time and date. Esman also will meet with applicants in September on the preparation of materials. Deadline about Oct. 1.

* Graduate teaching development workshop: Saturday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Kennedy Hall. All graduate students are invited to attend. Registration is mandatory; deadline is Monday, Sept. 6.
