German-study fellowships: Applications are being sought for DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and Cornell-Heidelberg Exchange fellowships for the academic year 2000-2001. One or more DAAD fellowships are awarded directly to Cornell annually. The fellowships -- which enable students to study at a German university or work on a research project in Germany -- carry tuition and fees, monthly stipend for 10 months and round-trip transportation. Graduating seniors, graduate students and Ph.D. candidates of high academic caliber who are enrolled full time, are not older than 32 and are U.S. or Canadian citizens are eligible to apply. Two exchange fellowships to the University of Heidelberg carry tuition and fees plus monthly stipends for 10 months. Students arrange for their own transportation, and the awards are intended mainly for graduate students interested in full-time study at Heidelberg. Applications should include project outline and/or rationale for study abroad, Cornell transcript, two letters of recommendation from professors in the student's field, local address, telephone number and e-mail address. All applicants must have a good knowledge of the German language at the time of the application. Applications for both fellowships are solicited from all academic units of the university and should be sent to Professor Herbert Deinert, 188 Goldwin Smith Hall (255-8356), or to Marguerite Mizelle, 183 Goldwin Smith Hall (255-8356); e-mail: germanic_studies@cornell.edu. The deadline is Friday, Oct. 15.
