Hunter Rawlings' inauguration ceremonies will also mark the world premiere of a music composition by Cornell alumnus Andrew Waggoner, who is director of Syracuse University's School of Music.
Waggoner's piece, Wyrd Versus, was commissioned for the occasion by Cornells Department of Music and will be performed by the Cornell Symphony Orchestra under the director of Edward Murray.
"It's a celebratory piece, like an extended fanfare," Murray noted, describing the work as lyrical, dynamic and energetic.
Waggoner earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from Cornell in 1986. His works have been played by the St. Louis and Denver symphony orchestras and by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
