Examples of Cornell University collaborative research in Asia, by faculty in the College of Human Ecology:
- T. Colin Campbell, professor of nutritional biochemistry, is the director of the Cornell-China-Oxford Project on Nutrition, Health and Environment, the most comprehensive project on diet and disease ever done. Recent findings suggest that Americans will not reduce their rates of cancer, cardiovascular disease and other chronic, degenerative diseases until they shift away from an animal-based diet to a plant-based diet. The principal investigators work in close collaboration with other scientists from both China and Taiwan, among other countries. Dr. Campbell may be reached at 255-2669 or 1074.
- Erik Thorbecke, the H.E. Babcock Professor of Economics and Food Economics, studies economic and agricultural development and development planning. He has participated in conferences on economic strategy in agriculture and rural development in the People's Republic of China and on Taiwan's economic development; he has published on the economic growth and structural change in Taiwan (1979), on technological change and growth performance in Taiwan agriculture (1980) and on the process of agricultural development in Taiwan (1991). He will be out of town until mid-June. His secretary (Wendy) may be reached at 255-2066.
