The Chancellor's Awards from the State University of New York (SUNY) for Student Excellence went to Jennifer Cha, Heather Clark, Tatiana Ho, Joshua Ladau, John Paul Pollak and Ann-Marie Roy.
The SUNY Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching were presented to Louis Albright, professor of agricultural and biological engineering, and Deborah Streeter, the Bruce F. Failing Sr. Professor of Personal Enterprise and Small Business Management in the Department of Agricultural, Resource and Managerial Economics. The SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service recipient was Daryle Foster, senior extension associate in the Department of Education. Gregory Lawrence received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship.
The award for Academic Excellence was presented to the top scholar in each of the college's 16 majors: agricultural and biological engineering Julie Miller; applied economics and business management Tatiana Ho; animal science Eleanor Moore; biological sciences Chun Kit Fung; biometry and statistics Stacey Koretsky; communication Julie O'Leary; education Stefanie Lalli; entomology Joshua Ladau, food science Veronica Dewanto; general studies Heather Clark; landscape architecture Richard Kennedy; natural resources William Cornwell, nutrition, food and agriculture Steve Behrens; plant sciences Allison Marusic; rural sociology Priya Sharma, soil, crop and atmospheric sciences Stephen Hudson.
Patty Wells received the Senior Service Award, sponsored by the ALS Alumni Association, based on voluntary activities beyond undergraduate academic requirements.
William Cornwell won the Paul Schreurs Memorial Award to recognize excellence in undergraduate research and service to the community.
This year's Outstanding Student Employee award went to Quynda Henry and Tracy Van Voorhis.
Student Organization Awards were given to the Minority Business Student Association for leadership development, Alpha Zeta Fraternity for creative fund raising and the Ho-Nun-De-Kah honor society for community service.
The Professor of Merit award, voted by the senior class, was awarded to Harold "Skip" Hintz, professor of animal science. Also by the senior class, the Donald C. Burgett Distinguished Adviser Award recipient was Alice Pell, professor of animal science.
The Young Faculty Teaching Excellence Award recognizes outstanding teachers in the first five years of their teaching appointment in CALS. Alice Chan, assistant professor of communication, was selected. The Innovative Teacher award, for developing new approaches to instruction in undergraduate teaching, went to Geri Gay, associate professor of communication.
The NACTA Teaching Award of Merit, given by the National Association for College Teachers of Agriculture, went to Robert Milligan, the J. Thomas Clark Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of Agricultural, Resource and Managerial Economics.
The Cooperative Extension and Outreach awards were presented to Thomas Zitter, professor of plant pathology, and the Cornell Program on Dairy Markets and Policy Team Andrew Novakovic, James Pratt, Mark Stephenson and Craig Alexander in the Department of Agricultural, Resource and Managerial Economics.
The Edgerton Career Teaching Award, for a faculty member who has provided outstanding teaching and advising throughout a long and continuous career in the college, was presented to Wayne Sinclair, professor of plant pathology.
Seniors Margot Greenman and Matthew Zales received awards of $1,000 each from the Cyril F. Crowe Fund, which recognizes academic performance of students in the department.
The A.N. Schwartz Prize for Agricultural Journalism, for undergraduates submitting original manuscripts, went to: Jennifer Abelson, first place; Ray Mak, second place; Brooke Hafets, third place; and Diane Lloyd, honorable mention.
The 1894 Memorial Debate Competition, a two-day, fall semester campuswide competition among undergraduates who are members of the Cornell Forensics Society, awarded the following cash prizes: Maurice Ducoing and Paul Wenzel, $350; Michael Cole and Elizabeth Kronk, $250; John Bradford, Alberto Leff and Candice Meth, $150; and Kim Atkinson, Jenna Barrows, Emily Barton, Lara Douglas, John Egan, Younglee Kim, Robert Melton, Parichay Rudina, Trina Saha, Jumana Salti, Thomas Scott, Ana Singh, Shannon Smith, Elena Voss and Mark Wittink, $50.
Winners of the Woolford Speaking Contest were: Tiffany Wong, first place; Loren Merrill, second place; Shanise Martinez, third place; and honorable mention went to Brenda Weissman, Michael Barish and Hadar Belkin.
Winners of the Stansky Award, used to support Forensics Society team members' travel expenses to a speech and debate tournament, went to Paul Wenzel, Maurice Ducoing, Michael Cole and Elizabeth Kronk.
The Kenneth J. Bissett Award, presented to a junior and senior communication major who exhibit academic excellence, creativity, sensitivity and an interest in the arts, went to Gabrielle Erbacher, first place; and Jessica Li, second place.
Tarra Helfgott and Elena Nardolillo received the Women Executives in Public Relations Foundation Award.
Michael Natter received the William B. Ward Communication Scholarship. Adam Simons and Stephen Zammit won the Gulden Award. Brett MacKechnie received the Friends of Joe King Scholarship. Julie O'Leary was named Outstanding Pan Hellenic Student.
Allison Szeliga and Kimberly Mohr won the Edward L. Bernays Foundation Primus Inter Pares Award, to encourage leadership in the Cornell Public Relations Student Society of America chapter.
Dominique Brossard and Eun Jung Lee won the Graduate Student Anson E. Rowe Award.
The Class of 1886 Memorial Speaking Contest, held in the spring, awarded the following prizes: Nicholas Snavely, first place; Nicole Lawrence, second place; Shara Freeman, third place; and honorable mention to Duane Wardally, Tara Rush and John Merrill.
The Sheila Turner Seed Memorial Award, a paid internship at Scholastic Inc.'s Choices magazine for junior women majoring in communication, went to Nicole Neroulias, Kellee Nygan and Kara Kassabian.
The Chester Freeman Communication Leadership Fund Award, given to a communication junior who best exhibits the interdisciplinary character of the department's program, went to Trina Lee.
Winners of the Anson E. Rowe Endowment Fund were senior Stephanie Seifried and juniors Jessica Li and Gabrielle Erbacher.
Timothy Carr and Matthew Wasson received the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Teaching Awards, given in recognition of excellence in teaching by a teaching assistant.
The Robert H. Whittaker Award, given in recognition of the best oral presentation made by a graduate student at the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Graduate Student Association's Symposium, went to David Post.
The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Book Award, for the best paper given by a beginning graduate student at the January Graduate Symposium, went to Peter McIntyre.
David Allin won the Alpha Rho Chi Medal, awarded by the professional architectural fraternity to a graduating student who has demonstrated leadership ability, performed service to the school and who shows promise of professional merit through attitude and personality.
The American Institute of Architects awards a medal and certificate of merit to the top-ranking graduating students. This year's Henry Adams Medal went to Vladimir Pajkic, and the certificate of merit went to John Tsai.
John Tsai received the Michael Rapuano Memorial Award, for "distinction in design" given to a graduating student in architecture, landscape architecture, painting, sculpture or planning.
Aleksandr Mergold received the New York Society of Architects Matthew W. Del Gaudío Award, given to a senior who leads the class in total design, including design, planning and construction.
Sneha Patel received the Suzanne Sheng Memorial Prize, for an architecture student demonstrating design excellence.
The William Downing Prize, recognizing outstanding achievement in architectural design, went to Ryan Kennihan and Aryan Omar.
Vladimir Pajkic received the Clifton Beckwith Brown Memorial Medal, awarded to the graduating student who has attained the highest cumulative average in architectural design.
Recipients of the Robert James Eidlitz Travel Fellowship were Nsenga Bansfield, Andrea Gaffney, Robert Brown, Rayna Huber, Nina Cooke John, Anton Kisselgoff, Karyn Lee, Hiromi Ogawa, Christian Sandel, William Sprengnether and Scott Walsh.
The Charles Goodwin Sands Memorial Medal is awarded on the basis of exceptional merit to architecture students in architectural design and to art students in sculpture or painting and composition. For architecture, Jason Austin won a silver medal, and Olalekan Jeyifous, Aleksandr Mergold and Aryan Omar won bronze medals; for art, Elisabeth Wilborn won a bronze medal.
The John Hartell Graduate Award for Art and Architecture, for research support, went to Vanessa Domico and Eduardo Quintero.
Ann Wilker won the Faculty Medal of Art, awarded to a graduating art student whose academic record and studio work, in faculty opinion, demonstrate the greatest promise of future achievement in the field of art.
The Department of Art Distinguished Achievement Award went to Hubert Neal, Carolina Moscoso and Fonda (Tao) Nyeu.
Min Woo Kang and Emily Sullivan won the Edward Palmer York Memorial Prize for first-year design.
The Paul Dickinson Prize, awarded to a first-year undergraduate architecture student with the highest scholastic record, went to David Qirong Huang.
The Baird Prize, cash prizes awarded for a competition in second-year architectural design, went to Shu-hui Chang, first prize; Aron Himmelfarb, second prize; John Miserendino and Andrew Thomas, third prize; and Sean Auyeung, Juthatham Chirathivat and Rachel Wilson, honorable mention.
The Edward A. Seipp Prize, cash prizes awarded for a competition in third-year architectural design, went to Terrence Cuaso, Antoinette Berdoukas, Daphne Lee, Michael MacDonald and George Salinas.
The Peter B. Andrews Memorial Thesis Prize, awarded for the best thesis for the degree of master of regional planning, went to Katherine Alice Carpenter.
The Thomas W. Mackesey Prize, awarded to a city and regional planning student who has demonstrated unusual academic competence or has significantly contributed to the intellectual advancement of fellow students, went to Kevin Alan Sherper Walker.
The American Institute of Certified Planners Student Award, recognizing outstanding achievement in the graduate study of planning, went to Timothy Logue.
The John W. Reps Award, given to a second-year graduate student for academic excellence to encourage and reward a preservation student for achievement, went to Gregory Donofrio.
Katherine Lizon received the Academic Achievement Award for the Undergraduate Program in Urban and Regional Studies.
The Dryden Comprehensive Plan Team Ryan Harris, Danielle Hautaniemi, Timothy Logue and Martha Wittosch received the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Planning Association Student Project Award, for an outstanding paper or class project demonstrating "innovation, transferability, quality, comprehensiveness and potential for implementation."
The Graduate Community Service Award, recognizing students in the Department of City and Regional Planning who have been effective in serving their peers and the Cornell and Ithaca communities, went to Julie Amato, Jonathan Martin, Nita Misra, Gabriella Sandoval and Amira Sohl.
The Urban and Regional Studies Community Service Award went to Matthew Golden, Tyisha Noise and Michelle Perales.
Angus Jennings won the Portman Graduate Student Award.
Outi Salminen received the E. Gorton Davis Traveling Fellowship.
The American Society of Landscape Architects Award for excellence in education went to Shusak Janpathomopong, certificate of honor; and Keita Cooper, Peter Hedlund and Deni Ruggeri, certificates of merit.
Alba Cabral received an Undergraduate Arts Recognition Award, given by the Cornell Council for the Arts and the Cultural Endeavors Committee.

The Goethe Prize is awarded for the best essays on German literature, culture or film in two levels of competition. In the category for juniors, seniors and graduate students, first prizes went to Tracie Matysik and John Kim.
In the category for freshmen and sophomores, second prizes were awarded to Vanessa Fogel and Amy Stutius.
Herman and Phoebe Karpel Memorial Prizes for Superior Performance were awarded in the following categories: Elementary Hebrew Natalie Shaw and Marianne Ho; Intermediate Hebrew Michael Benn; and Advanced Hebrew Daniel Borrus and Jonathan Bell.

Albert Hwa received the American Institute of Chemists Award, which recognizes a student's demonstrated record of ability, indication of leadership and professional promise.
Michael Ivan received the P&G Technical Excellence Award for best technical presentation.
Serena Schlake received the 3M Fellowship, which is awarded on the basis of scholarship, communication, interpersonal skills and creativity.
Jae Yong Shin received the ABB Lummus Global Recognition Award for best technical essay.
Michael Zalar received the award for Outstanding Service to the School.
The ASCE Student Chapter was awarded a Certificate of Commendation for its outstanding activities in 1999.
Charles Lee Crandall Essay Prizes were awarded to Seth Coan, environmental engineering; Anita Ngai, civil infrastructure; and Erin Russell, systems engineering and information technology. Rebecca Vincent won second place in civil infrastructure.
The John E. Perry Outstanding Teaching Assistant Prize went to Andrew Cushing, Susannah Hobbs and Taryn Williams.

Assistant Professor Raffaello D'Andrea was awarded the Dennis G. Shepherd Teaching Prize for outstanding teaching in the Sibley School.
Sophomores Kenneth Davies, Kenneth McEnaney, James Howard, Lucas Messina and Adam Wickenheiser won the Lockheed Martin Engineering Scholars Award for academic excellence.
Cyrus Dhalla and Jonathan Haug were selected as recipients of the R.N. Janeway Automotive Engineering Award, presented for a technical paper proposing an improvement in automotive vehicles.
Albert George, the John F. Carr Professor of Mechanical Engineering, received a faculty adviser award from the Society of Automotive Engineers for his long-time service to the Cornell Formula SAE Racing Team.
Graduate students Nathan Jauvtis and Tina Jayaweera received the Ralph Bolgiano Sr. Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Manoel Noguiera received an honorable mention.
The Outstanding Senior Award, presented by the student section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, went to Toni Poloso.
Michael Sherback received the McManus Design Award, for writing a technical paper presenting an original solution to a design problem or project.
The Frank and Rosa Rhodes Scholarship Award went to Datong Zhang for contributing to the College of Engineering through academic achievements and leadership.
Visiting scientist Kathryn Caggiano won the IIE/Informs Student Chapter Outstanding Teaching Award from the department undergraduates.
Richard Cleary, senior lecturer, won the Interfraternity Council Faculty Appreciation Award for the College of Engineering.
Michael Freimer won the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.

The American College of Veterinary Surgeons' Award went to Allen Fournier for large-animal surgery and to Zbigniew Piaseczny for small-animal surgery. Fournier also won the Anne Besse Prize for best work in food animal medicine.
The Auxiliary of the American Veterinary Medical Association Prize went to Diane Sidoli. Sidoli also received the Wild Bird Research and Rehabilitation Award.
The James Gordon Bennett Prize, for the fourth-year student who shows the greatest humaneness in handling animals, went to Joshua Laskin Weisberg.
The Frank Bloom Pathology Award went to Christina Therese Braun. Braun also won the A. Gordon Danks Large-Animal Surgery Award.
Melissa Lyn Carlson won the Gary Bolton Memorial Cardiology Award and the Col. Floyd C. Sager Equine Obstetrics and Pediatrics Award.
The Charles Gross Bondy Prize, for the best work by a student in the fourth year in courses in practical medicine and surgery of small animals, went to Jennifer Matlow.
The Donald Delahanty Memorial Prize, for a fourth-year student who shows an interest in equine practice, went to Ashley Boyle.

Dennis Burt Bailey Jr. won the Hugh Dukes Prize in Experimental Physiology and the Horace K. White Prize, for the student with the highest academic record during veterinary training. Bailey and Polly Foureman received the Neuroanatomy and Clinical Neurology Prize.
The Ettinger Incentive Award, for the second-year student who has made the greatest improvement in cumulative grade-point average, went to Emilia Monachino.
Marie-Josee Desbarats received the Howard E. Evans Award in Comparative Anatomy.
Larissa Anne Minicucci received the Myron G. Fincher Prize, for a fourth-year student demonstrating the best work in courses dealing with large-animal obstetrics and reproductive disorders, and the Jacob Traum Award, awarded to the fourth-year student who exhibits and aptitude for and expressed interest in research on infectious diseases.
The Gentle Doctor Award, for a fourth-year student who exemplifies enthusiasm, motivation and dedication to the delivery of excellent veterinary patient care, went to Katrina Liv Capel. Capel also received the New York State Veterinary Medical Society Prize for the best senior seminar. Honorable mention awards went to Adam James McClure and Larissa Anne Minicucci.
The Hills "Buddy" Award, for excellent problem-solving ability, knowledge and application of the principles of nutrition, went to Jodi Novak.
The Grant Sherman Hopkins Prize, for interest, ability, perseverance and performance in work in anatomy, went to John Andrew Gallagher.
Kimberly Johnson LoGuidice won the IAMS and VECCS Award, to a fourth-year student who is a member of the student chapter of VECCS and has demonstrated excellence in the field of small animal emergency and critical care medicine.
The P. Philip Levine Prize in Avian Medicine went to Julie Keene.

The Jane Miller Prize, awarded to a second-year student who has done the best work in veterinary physiology, went to Stacey Benton. Benton also received the Phi Zeta Award, for the second-year student with the best academic record upon completion of the first three semesters of study.
Ada Guzman received the Malcolm E. Miller Award, given to a fourth-year student who, in the judgment of the dean, has demonstrated perseverance, scholastic diligence and other personal characteristics that will bring credit and distinction to the veterinary profession.
Rebecca Young won the Leonard Pearson Veterinary Prize, awarded to the fourth-year student who demonstrates the potential for professional and/or academic leadership in veterinary medicine.
The Pfizer Animal Health Veterinary Scholarship Award, recognizing the outstanding third-year student, went to Jonathan Michael Levine.
The Pharmacia and Upjohn Clinical Award for large-animal medicine went to Michael Benjamin Capel, and the award for small-animal medicine went to Adam James McClure.
The Philotherian Photographic Prize, given for the best photograph of an animal in its environment, went to Kristen Reyher, Gregory Greene and Alexander Aguila.
The Pamela Slack Award, given to a third-year student demonstrating outstanding competence in various areas of avian medicine, went to Wendy Fleischman.
Eric Baitchman won the Isidor I. Sprecker Wildlife Medicine Award, presented to a third- or fourth-year student with an interest in a career in zoo and wildlife medicine.
The Dorothy Sullivan Prize went to Robert Stevens.
