Henry N. Ricciuti, professor emeritus of human development, is the recipient of the Society for Research in Child Development's 2001 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Public Policy for Children. He was recognized for his "important achievements on behalf of public policy affecting children in our society." The award will be presented at the SRCD meeting in Minneapolis on April 21.

"Henry's career serves as an excellent model of how to combine rigorous developmental research with a concern for how that research can be used to influence public policies that affect the lives of children and families," said John Eckenrode, Cornell chair and professor of human development.

Ricciuti has been on the Cornell faculty since 1958. He is an expert on infant development and its assessment and on maternal and environmental predictors of early development (including malnutrition, parent-infant interaction, day care).

He has served on the National Advisory Council of the National Institute of Child Health, as chair of the publications committee of the SRCD, as chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies and as the former director of the Infant Care and Resource Center at Cornell.
