NSF educational outreach workshop to be held on campus Aug. 20-21

The Nanobiotechnology Center and the Cornell Center for Materials Research will host a National Science Foundation (NSF) workshop on science, mathematics, engineering and technology (SMET) educational outreach Aug. 20-21. The workshop, "NSF Research Centers: Partners in SMET Education" will be held at the Statler Hotel on campus. It is not open to the public.

The national meeting will draw 75 outreach representatives from NSF-funded research centers at universities across the country, including Cornell, who will discuss the future direction of their education programs. The research centers represented will be Engineering Research Centers, Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers, and Science and Technology Centers.

The meeting format will be a combination of keynote speakers, panel discussions and working groups focused on four main topics across these centers: important criteria for educational initiatives within a center; design and documentation of measurable objectives; integration of research and education; and creating viable external partnerships.

Workshop details are at www.nbtc.cornell.edu/august_workshop.htm.
