Schwartz Center presents Sartre's No Exit April 11-13

Forget your idea of hell. Imagine just one man, two women and three chairs. No flames, no devil. What's there to be afraid of? Jean-Paul Sartre's one-act play, No Exit, explores the idea of hell as a bare room holding only three people destined to drive each other crazy. As Estelle, Inès and Garcin contemplate why they've been sent to hell, what emerges is an intricate web of mental torment as each tries to escape the prying eyes of the others.

Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre of the Sheila W. and Richard J. Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts beginning Friday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m. Performances continue Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets -- $2 in advance, $3 at the door -- can be purchased at the Schwartz Center box office, Monday through Friday, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. or at the door one hour before performance. Call 254-ARTS for tickets.

No Exit features the acting talents of Colista Turner '05, Chloe Liederman '03 and Matt Volner '05 and is designed by Ross Haarstad, Amy Bravo '04, Neil Becker '05 and Stephanie Harmelin '04. Jennifer Weinbaum '04 serves as director.

Four times a year, the Black Box Series offers students the opportunity to assume commanding directing, design and acting roles in small-budget projects. The series allows the Cornell Department of Theatre, Film and Dance to feature its finest young talent in an experimental environment and is made possible through the generosity of Cornell alumni Leah Shampanier Gould and Harold Gould.
