Cornell and its Office of Communication and Marketing Services have won two gold medals and a "Best in Show" in the 19th annual national admissions advertising awards competition conducted by "Admissions Marketing Report."
Cornell won the gold medal in its class -- and one of only 15 best-in-show awards out of more than 2,200 entries from more than 1,000 institutions -- for the university's total undergraduate recruitment package. A second gold medal was awarded for a brochure on undergraduate nutritional studies, "If You're Intrigued by These Questions ..."
Cornell's was the only undergraduate recruitment package honored with a best-in-show. The entry included:
Graphic designers Judy Burns and Clive Howard, editors JoAnn Wimer and Claudia Wheatley, and writers Peggy Haine and Deb Durnam all contributed. Client liaisons included Doris Davis and Jason Locke from Undergraduate Admissions and Peggy Beach for SCAMP.
The brochure depicting undergraduate studies in the Division of Nutritional Sciences was designed by Wendy Kenigsberg and edited by Liz Bauman. Elise West and Darryl Scott of the College of Human Ecology were the clients.
"It is always gratifying to be recognized, and especially in this competition, which draws thousands of entries produced by high-powered public relations and advertising agencies," said Edward Hershey, director of CAMS, who noted that University Photography and the Office of Purchasing Services also contributed to both winning entries. More than 4,000 college and secondary school admissions officers subscribe to "Admissions Marketing Report" monthly.
