The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell will hold an opening reception for its winter exhibits on Friday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

In conjunction with the current exhibit "Taboo and Transgression in Contemporary Indonesian Art," donations will be taken to support the Red Cross and its ongoing tsunami relief efforts in South and Southeast Asia. Donations are being taken at the Johnson Museum throughout the run of the exhibit, which is on view through March 20.

The reception will highlight the other current exhibitions, all of contemporary art: "Material Matters," a group show of 20 international artists working in everyday objects and materials; a solo installation of disintegrating carpets by Brooklyn-based artist Elana Herzog; and a façade projection by Swedish artist Maria Friberg.

The Johnson Museum has a permanent collection of more than 30,000 works of art from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. For more information, call 255-6464 or visit the museum's Web site at http://www.museum.cornell.edu.
