Notables
Roberts S. Summers, the McRoberts Research Professor of Law, was elected
May 7 as a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in recognition of
his contributions to legal philosophy and jurisprudence. He has authored many books
and articles in these fields and has lectured
widely in Europe, Great Britain and the United
States on various topics in the theory of law.
During the 1985 spring semester, Summers was a visting Fulbright Professor at the
University of Vienna. In the summer of 1990, he was
a member of the Annual Salzburg Seminar Faculty. In December of 1995 he
delivered three lectures at the University of Vienna
on the Formal Character of Law.
Elizabeth Hess, a nurse practitioner at Gannett Health Center, has been selected
as one of two representatives of the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance, and one of 46
representatives from organizations across the
country, to serve on the National Review Panel of
the congressionally mandated Breast Cancer Research Program. This year the Breast
Cancer Research Program will be responsible for allocating $75 million in federal funds
to research projects on the treatments, cause and potential cures for breast cancer. The
panel begins meetings in Washington this month.
