U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun (D-Ill.) will be the featured speaker at a seminar on "Work & Retirement: The Impact of Changes in Social Security and Pensions in the New Millennium," sponsored by the Institute for Women and Work at Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations Jan. 26 in New York City.
The seminar will be from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Cornell Conference Center at 16 E. 34th St. (between 5th and Madison Avenue).
Moseley-Braun will discuss how proposed revisions in the Social Security laws and pension systems will affect income security during retirement for a substantial portion of older Americans, especially women. She also will address how trends in men's and women's employment, as well as gender disparities in pay, affect income security in retirement years.
Moseley-Braun is the first permanent woman member of the Senate Finance Committee, a member of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and a member of the Special Committee on Aging. Formerly, she served on the Judiciary Committee, the Small Business Committee and the Bipartisan Commission on Entitlements and Tax Reform.
The seminar is co-sponsored by the New York State AFL-CIO Work and Family Committee and the American Women's Forum for Economic Development Strategies Inc. For more information on the seminar, contact Francine Moccio at the Institute for Women and Work, (212) 340-2836.
