Renowned conductor Eugene Ormandy, who once performed Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Cornell University Glee Club, called the group: "The finest chorus I have ever conducted."
After performing to packed houses on the West Coast during a whirlwind tour in January, the Glee Club will repeat its SRO concert on campus this Friday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. in the Center for Theatre Arts' Proscenium Theatre. As an added bonus, a new book, Songs from the Hill: A History of the Cornell University Glee Club, by alumnus Michael Slon, can be ordered following the concert.
The 60-member male chorus, directed by Scott Tucker, assistant professor of music, will interpret works from the Renaissance and folk music from North and South America. The concert also will feature popular songs sung by the Hangovers, the Glee Club's a cappella spin-off group, and will conclude with traditional Cornell songs.
Tucker also leads the Cornell University Chorus, oversees the activities of the Cornell Chorale, Chamber Singers and Sage Chapel Choir, and teaches courses in music theory and conducting.
Admission to the concert is $5 at the door; no advance tickets will be sold.
