Helen Domske, New York Sea Grant's coastal education specialist, is one of nine educators in the region who have received national recognition for the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network's Exotic Species Day Camp Education (ESDCE) project. Project members were given the honor of "Outstanding Educational Program" from the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC), an international consortium of state universities and land grant institutions providing high quality and economic distance education programs and services via the latest information technologies. The award recognizes the Sea Grant team for innovation and excellence in the development and delivery of credit or noncredit programs with consideration given to both technological and academic innovation. The project members educated teachers in remote locations throughout the Great Lakes region about the availability and benefit of classroom teaching resources focusing on the biology, spread and impact of aquatic exotic species. One of 29 Sea Grant programs nationwide, NYSG is state and federally funded as a cooperative effort of SUNY and Cornell engaging in research, outreach and education concerning the state's marine and Great Lakes resources.
