Salut! RedHead Wine in competition
RedHead Wine, an entrepreneurial team comprised of Marisa Sergi ’15, Gavin Hilder ’17, Zach Berle ’15 and Elizabeth Shvidky ’16 are among 15 finalists vying for a $15,000 award Jan. 22-24 in the Queen’s Entrepreneurs’ Competition in Ontario, Canada.
In the first round of the competition, teams submit a 25-page business plan. Based on undisclosed criteria, the top 15 teams are invited to pitch their plan before a team of venture capitalist judges who select six teams to present to a new set of judges on the final day of the competition.
RedHead Wine was developed by Sergi during her studies in enology and viticulture at Cornell. The wine is produced at her parents’ L’uva Bella Winery in Youngstown, Ohio.
With an infusion of cash, Sergi will purchase a tank dedicated to her label, which will allow her to increase production.
“The RedHead wine team consists of Cornell undergraduates who are based in New York state, so it is only natural that we want to expand our shipping and distribution to reach this market,” Sergi said.
