Making connections in the digital humanities

A series of events focusing on digital humanities – the use of digital media and technology in teaching, learning and research – aims to connect people and programs doing innovative digital work across Cornell.

“Transmediating Knowledge” is the theme for this year’s Conversations in Digital Humanities, which begin Oct. 13 with a “Digital Pedagogies Show and Tell” session in Olin Library. The 2016-17 program is designed and hosted by Jon McKenzie, Dean’s Fellow for Media and Design and visiting professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences.

“From makerspaces and digital arts to game designers and interactive environments, the boundaries of digital humanities are expanding across campus,” McKenzie said. “Cornell has a wealth of digital gems that we will showcase this year.”

Discussions of speakers’ projects will be informal and last around an hour. The events will be filmed and available for viewing here.

“This series will engage scholars and practitioners at Cornell to explore how new media and digital methodologies are influencing the landscape of scholarship and cultural experience,” said Oya Rieger, associate university librarian for scholarly resources and preservation services at Cornell University Library.

The series is co-sponsored by Cornell University Library, the Society for the Humanities and the College of Arts and Sciences.
