The Cornell Council for the Arts (CCA) is offering course development grants to faculty interested in teaching one section of the four-credit course Mind and Memory: Explorations of Creativity in the Arts and Sciences, to be offered in Spring 1999. Two grants of $5,000 are available.
The CCA invites faculty to propose plans for teaching one section of 20 students. A major emphasis of the course would be the development of a creative project with a public dimension. The project, quite naturally, will grow out of interaction between the faculty member and the students, but the CCA asks that a preliminary description of that project be included, even though the project can be expected to change.
Proposals should be between three and five pages in length and should include a budget; it may include negotiations with one's department for the proposed course/section to be part of the faculty member's regular teaching load. The grant will be paid as a research fund for project expenses as well as personal research and materials expenses related to planning, teaching and final presentation.
To be eligible to apply for the grant, faculty must attend an information session Sept. 18 at the A.D. White House from 9 to 11 a.m. Proposals must be submitted by Oct. 16 to the CCA, 341 Caldwell Hall. Grant recipients will be contacted and funds available Nov. 9.
For more information on the grant proposal, contact the CCA at 255-7274.
The Mind and Memory course is part of the CCA's mission to advance focus on creativity in the curriculum and in community outreach by supporting teaching project grants.
