The IthaKid Film Fest, Cornell Cinema's movie series for the younger set, will present a lineup of recent and classic children's films during November.
All films are shown at 2 p.m. in Willard Straight Theatre. Tickets are $2; $1.50 for children under 12.
A new animated version of Pippi Longstocking will be screened Nov. 1. The 9-year-old heroine of Astrid Lindgren's classic books fends for herself when her father is lost at sea. With the help of her horse and monkey, Pippi gets along just fine enrolling herself in school, hiding her stash of gold from crooks and fighting off the efforts of the nasty neighbor who wants to place Pippi in a children's home. This film is recommended for ages 5 and older.
The international film White Balloon, to be shown Nov. 8, is the story of one girl's New Year's Eve in Iran. Seven-year-old Razieh asks her mother for money to buy beautiful white goldfish for the New Year's table, but on her way to the market she loses the money. Her quest to find the money makes for a spellbinding story. Minimal subtitles will be read aloud. The movie is appropriate for children ages 7 and older.
Long Live the Queen, from the Netherlands, to be screened Nov. 15, provides a new twist to the adult game of chess. Over the objections of her parents, a young girl buys her own chess set and becomes drawn into the world of the life-like pieces and is taught to play by her magical new friends. This film is recommended for children ages 8 and older.
Silent screen star Mary Pickford stars in the title role of Poor Little Rich Girl. Pickford was 24 when she was cast to play 10-year-old Gwen, who is neglected by her rich parents. Her mother and father are more interested in their glamorous lives than in their daughter's loneliness. This film is recommended for children ages 6 and older. It will be shown Nov. 22, accompanied by Philip Carli on the piano.
