Cornell student dies in off-campus fire May 13

Cornell Vice President for University Communications Tommy Bruce issued the following statement Saturday, May 13:

"A Cornell student died early Saturday morning, May 13, in a tragic off-campus fire at 111-113 Heights Court. We are all deeply sorrowed by this terrible loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the young man's family. The name of the student is being withheld at this time by the Ithaca Police Department pending a positive identification and notification of next of kin.

"Another Cornell student is being treated at Cayuga Medical Center for minor injuries resulting from the fire. The cause of the blaze, which left five other people -- including one other enrolled Cornell student -- homeless, is still under investigation by local authorities, with the full assistance of the university. Cornell, with the help of local support agencies, also has been assisting the residents find alternative housing, as well as offering counseling and other support."
