Cornellians, former President Rawlings and Trustee Elizabeth Moore, named to New York governor-elect's transition team

Former Cornell President Hunter Rawlings and Cornell Trustee Elizabeth D. Moore '75 have been named to the transition team of New York State Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer.

Spitzer named his six-member transition team at his first press conference Nov. 9. "We have assembled a transition team dedicated to ensuring a seamless government transition," said Spitzer. "This impressive group will guide our transition efforts and help ensure that my administration hits the ground running on day one."

Rawlings served as Cornell president from 1995-2003 and as interim president from 2005-2006. He is now a Cornell professor of classics. Moore is a partner in the law firm of Nixon Peabody specializing in employment issues such as diversity and contingent work force issues.

Cornell President David Skorton extended his congratulations to Rawlings and Moore.

"With the depth of his knowledge and experience as an educator and former president of Cornell and the University of Iowa, Hunter Rawlings will offer invaluable insight and wise counsel at a promising time for higher education in the state of New York," Skorton said.

He noted that Moore "plays an important role in improving our country's work arena. As a member of the Cornell Board of Trustees, Liz has served on many important committees. She will bring a great deal of skill and practice as a transition chair.

"As long time leaders of New York's land grant university, Rawlings and Moore have actively contributed to the well-being of all New Yorkers. We are very fortunate to have leaders of such caliber as members of Governor-elect Spitzer's transition team."

In announcing the transition team, Spitzer signaled a bipartisan approach by tapping appointees such as Republican donor Richard Parsons, chief executive of Time Warner, and Moore, who served as counsel to former New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Other appointees named by Spitzer were Rosanna Rosado, publisher of the Spanish-language newspaper El Diario, Peter C. Goldmark Jr., former chief executive of The International Herald Tribune (who also served as budget director for former New York Gov. Hugh Carey in the 1970s), and Lloyd Constantine, Spitzer's former law partner.
