Open enrollment extension period under way; state health rates to come

If you missed the open enrollment period to sign up for Select Benefits Medical Reimbursement or Dependent Care Reimbursement accounts for 2009 or to enroll in or change your endowed health plans -- don't worry. The extension period runs until Dec. 31.

During this period, you may still sign up for Select Benefits or enroll in one of the five endowed health plans. You may also change your enrollments in Select Benefits or an endowed health plan during this time.

If you are receiving a Child Care Grant for 2009, you must be enrolled in a Select Benefits Dependent Care Account.

However, during this period, you cannot enroll in Select Benefits or an endowed health plan online -- you need to submit a paper form, available online, or stop by Benefit Services, 130 Day Hall, 255-2926). Your paperwork may not be processed by Jan. 1 (though you will be covered under your health plan effective Jan.1).

What about the contract college health plans and their Option Transfer Period? New York state is extraordinarily late this year in releasing the new health plan premiums for the Empire Plan and the alternate HMOs. As soon as the state announces these premiums, Benefit Services will be prepared to answer questions and will send out notices to contract college employees.
