Potdar wins Cornell Concerto Competition

Vikram Potdar '14 is the winner of the ninth annual Cornell Concerto Competition, held Dec. 9 in Barnes Hall. He will perform Samuel Barber's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with the Cornell Symphony Orchestra on March 7, 2013, in Bailey Hall.

In the competition, Potdar was accompanied by D.M.A. student Andrew Zhou on the second and third movements of the Barber concerto.

Potdar is a chemical engineering major and a dean's honor list student in the College of Engineering. The North Carolina native has been playing piano since age 9 and currently studies with professor of music Xak Bjerken.

Potdar and five other finalists -- soprano Hilary Garnish '14, pianist Kyu Ree Kang '15, violinist Moriah Son '14, pianist Tiffany Tsay '13 and violinist Jimin Yang '15 -- were chosen from 13 students who competed in the semifinal round, also Dec. 9.

Judges for the competition were Cornell Professor Emeritus Malcolm Bilson and Ithaca College School of Music faculty Jeffrey Meyer and James Mick. More information is available online.
