Volunteers needed for Slope Day, May 3

Volunteers are needed for Slope Day, May 3, to help make the last day of classes safe, relaxing and enjoyable for all.

Volunteers are needed for four-hour shifts that begin throughout the day. These “Level 2” volunteers are restricted to faculty and staff members. All staff/faculty volunteers are asked to submit the application available at http://slopeday.cornell.edu/volunteer.

There is also a need for two-hour volunteer shifts. These “Level 1,” mostly student volunteers can select their duties on the website.

All volunteers should plan to attend one of the training sessions found on the application. Volunteers will be entered into a raffle to win an iPad 4, Campus to Campus bus tickets and other prizes.

Supervisory approval is needed for release time from work for volunteer hours that coincide with scheduled work hours. Hours spent volunteering will be considered paid release time (i.e., paid leave) only if they coincide with scheduled work hours. Hours spent volunteering that fall outside of scheduled work hours will be without pay.

For staff required to work: Non-exempt staff who are required to work the Slope Day event must be paid for all hours worked during the event, even if such hours do not coincide with their regularly scheduled work hours. Such time should be entered as “regular” in the time collection system.

If you are unsure whether you are assisting at Slope Day in a purely volunteer capacity or in a required capacity, contact your supervisor, your human resources representative or the Division of Human Resources (255-6894) for clarification.

Exempt staff: Exempt staff who provide assistance during Slope Day in either capacity above will receive their usual compensation.
