Men's lax coach let go; national search launched

Earlier today, Andrew Noel, the Meakem Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education, informed Ben DeLuca ’98 that he had been let go as head coach of the Cornell men’s lacrosse program. DeLuca had been head coach since 2010.

“While I recognize the contributions Coach DeLuca has made to our program as a player, assistant coach and head coach, it is my belief that new leadership is required to best preserve our program and support our students in the near term and into the future. Our Cornell lacrosse program, with its decadeslong tradition of excellence, is our highest priority,” Noel said.

Offensive coordinator Matt Kerwick has been named interim head coach while Cornell conducts a national search.

“Matt is a proven leader and has held head coach positions at Hobart and Jacksonville University,” said Noel. “I have great confidence in Matt’s ability to lead the team in this time of transition. We are also confident in our ability to attract an exceptional head coach to lead the team forward in the tradition of Cornell lacrosse.”
