Jennifer Tiffany, Ph.D. ’04, is the new executive director of Cornell University Cooperative Extension of New York City (CUCE-NYC).

Tiffany has served as CUCE-NYC interim director since the unexpected death of former director Don Tobias in November 2013.

“Jen is a natural choice to lead Cornell Cooperative Extension University-New York City, thanks to her long history of success engaging fellow researchers, community members, practitioners, policymakers and extension teams to pursue research that benefits communities,” said Alan Mathios, the Rebecca Q. and James C. Morgan Dean of the College of Human Ecology and lead dean for CUCE-NYC. “I expect that she will build on the many achievements of our late friend Don Tobias and continue his legacy of extending Cornell’s land-grant mission to millions of New York City residents.”

In addition to her new role, Tiffany will continue to serve as associate director of Cornell Cooperative Extension in the College of Human Ecology. There, she works to promote the translation of Cornell’s research to communities throughout New York state and beyond and to increase participation of communities, policymakers and others in developing research projects and agendas.

She is also director of outreach and community engagement for the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research, which aims to improve connections between research and the design, evaluation and implementation of policies and practices that enhance human development, health and well-being.

“CUCE-NYC is uniquely positioned to advance Cornell’s efforts in extension/outreach, translational research and community engagement, and its close partnership with the Bronfenbrenner Center is a key asset,” said Tiffany. “I am committed to continuing CUCE-NYC’s strong partnerships with New York City communities, families and organizations, and to further developing our strong working relationships with Weill Cornell Medical College, ILR Extension, Cornell Tech and the Urban Semester Program.”

As executive director Tiffany reports to Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE), which is led by Christopher Watkins, director of CCE and associate dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Human Ecology.

Tiffany’s scholarly work centers on research translation and community engagement, with an emphasis on research about youth participation and HIV/AIDS.

She received her doctorate from Cornell’s Department of City and Regional Planning and will divide her time between Ithaca and New York City.
