Kaushik Basu heads International Economic Association

Kaushik Basu, Cornell’s C. Marks Professor of International Studies and professor of economics in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been named president-elect of the International Economic Association (IEA), beginning in September 2014. He will assume the position of president in 2017.

The IEA is a leading organization for professional economists and seeks to shape global economic policy and research. Among IEA past presidents are Nobel laureates Robert Solow, Amartya Sen and Joseph Stiglitz.

Basu, who is on leave from the university while serving as senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank, is the second Indian to head the IEA.
