TCAT bus routes to change beginning Jan. 11

After analyzing ridership data and bus routes, Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) has released winter/spring 2015 schedule modifications, which include significant changes for Route 81, increased frequency for Route 82, adjustments to Route 83, and timing changes for other campus routes. Service revisions take effect Jan. 11.

Route 81, which has seen a steady decline in ridership from B Lot, is changing to a peak-demand morning and afternoon shuttle serving A Lot, Central Campus and the Veterinary Research Tower stop on Tower Road. It will no longer run to B Lot.

Route 82 will become the primary all-day campus shuttle. It will run every 10 minutes, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Route 82 will serve Hasbrouck Apartments and A Lot on North Campus, Central Campus, the Veterinary College stop on Tower Road, CISER, the East Hill Office Building and East Hill Plaza, with peak-demand morning and afternoon service to the Veterinary College/B Lot stop adjacent to B Lot.

Employees who currently park in B Lot to catch the Route 81 bus to their work location can park closer to stops on Route 82: Employee permits valid in B Lot also are valid in the Boyce Thompson Institute and Teaching and Research Barns lots located at the corner of Campus and Tower roads, as well as the South Morrison lot at the corner of Campus and Judd Falls roads, a block from the stop at the Dairy Bar.

Route 83 will provide service from West Campus and North Campus (including Hasbrouck) to Central Campus via Tower Road, and will increase its morning service, running every 15 minutes until 10 a.m., but will no longer run all day. After 10 a.m., West Campus residents can take the Route 10 bus at Boldt Hall. Route 83 service to Ridgewood has been eliminated due to low ridership. Residents previously using this service from Ridgewood can access more frequent service at the Route 30 bus stop at Highland and Wyckoff or Highland and Thurston.

Route 90 weekday service will increase to every half hour.

Route 93 has added a 6:30 p.m. trip to transition between daytime and nighttime campus shuttle service.

Route 10 has been retimed to avoid “clumping” of buses on the route, and morning peak service will be extended to 11 a.m.

More information on these changes can be found at www.tcatbus.com and at major stops on campus.
