Entrepreneurship Summit NYC set for Nov. 6

Cornell President Elizabeth Garrett will join entrepreneurs from Intel and Adobe as featured speakers for the fourth Cornell Entrepreneurship Summit NYC on Nov. 6, organized and hosted by Entrepreneurship at Cornell.

“This signature event highlights the value Cornell places on entrepreneurial thinking,” said Garrett. “Across the university, we are encouraging entrepreneurial activities by our faculty and students, and I believe that regardless of their future careers, students can benefit from exposure to innovative ways of thinking about problems and creating solutions.”

The summit, “Erase the Edge: Get to the Edge, Erase it and Envision the Future,” will feature 11 entrepreneurial business leaders speaking in TED-style talks of 15 minutes each about their entrepreneurial journeys. They will share insights about their successes and challenges, and motivate and inspire participants to pursue entrepreneurial risk.

Between keynotes, three student teams from New York University (NYU) and three student teams from Cornell will pitch their startup business to the audience, which traditionally includes a mix of venture capitalists, angel investors, alumni entrepreneurs and current students.

“We’re very excited to be a part of this terrific event that is adding to the power of the NYC startup ecosystem. We are particularly pleased that our teams are participating as they have incredible stories to share,” said Andy Moss, entrepreneur-in-residence at the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The TimesCenter on West 41st Street, with a cocktail reception to follow.

Featured speakers include Genevieve Bell, Intel vice president and fellow, who leads an R&D team of social scientists, interaction designers and human factors engineers to drive consumer-centric product innovation in Intel’s consumer electronics business. Also featured will be Jon Gordon ’93, author of The Wall Street Journal best-seller “The Energy Bus,” “Soup,” “The No Complaining Rule,” “Training Camp” and “The Carpenter.”

Other speakers include: Brad Katsuyama, CEO, president and co-founder of IEX, a stock market dedicated to investor protection; Philip Krim, co-founder and CEO of Casper; Bob Langer ’70, the David H. Koch Institute Professor at MIT and the 2015 Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year; Malia Mills ’90, founder and CEO, Malia Mills; Neil Parikh, co-founder and COO of Casper; Sacha Ross ’94, J.D. ’99, partner, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati; Brandon Steiner, founder and CEO, Steiner Sports Marketing and Memorabilia; Josh Tetrick ’04, founder and CEO, Hampton Creek; and Scott Belsky ’02, founder, Behance and vice president for products/community at Adobe, who will act as moderator.

Entrepreneurship at Cornell hosted the inaugural summit in 2012 as an extension to its annual Celebration event and conference, which brings more than 250 alumni to campus each spring. The annual summit attracts more than 500 participants.

“The summit is our marquee event in NYC and represents our commitment to grow Cornell’s entrepreneurship presence in NYC and elsewhere,” said Zach Shulman, director of Entrepreneurship at Cornell.

Registration of $395 includes access to all speaker presentations, breakfast and lunch, end of summit reception and networking. To learn more or register, visit summit.eship.cornell.edu/2015.
