Town/Gown Resource Fair set for Nov. 2 in Ithaca

Cornell University, Ithaca College and Tompkins Cortland Community College will hold a joint Town/Gown Resource Fair to introduce area educators, business people, veterans, scholars, government officials and community organizers to the schools’ outreach programs and resources.

The fair will be held Nov. 2, 8:30-11 a.m., at The Space @ Greenstar, 700 W. Buffalo St, Ithaca, and is free and open to the public.

“Area residents who work for and with local government, K-12 and not-for-profits will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from a wide range of higher education programs,” said Susan Riley, deputy director of community relations.

Among those from Cornell: the Office of Engagement Initiatives, Local Roads Program, Waste Management Institute, Center for Materials Research, Public Service Center and other departments and offices.

Also expected at the resource fair: the Offices of External Relations, Student Activities, and Biz at Tompkins Cortland Community College; the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs at Ithaca College; and College Initiative Upstate, a program of Opportunities, Alternatives and Resources of Tompkins County Inc. that creates opportunities for people with criminal justice violations.

“The diversity of participating organizations and anticipated fair attendees reflects the many levels of town-gown engagement that are already in place and can be built upon,” said Riley.
