VP Lombardi issues condolences on death of A&S student

Vice President for Student and Campus Life Ryan Lombardi issued the following statement April 4:

It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you that we have lost a member of the Cornell community.

Memorial service
A memorial service for Joyce Shi is scheduled for Monday, April 10, at 11 a.m. in Sage Chapel. All are welcome.

Peiran “Joyce” Shi ’19, a student in the College of Arts & Sciences, died from injuries sustained in a car accident in New Jersey late Monday night. Two other Cornell students were involved in the accident, and have been treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.

Originally from Shenzhen, China, Joyce planned to major in physics and pursued many academic and extracurricular interests in foreign languages, electronic circuits and karate.

As we struggle with this loss, I encourage you to reach out to others for support and to use the support services listed below.

On behalf of the university community, I extend our deepest condolences to Joyce’s family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts as we mourn this tremendous loss to the Cornell community.
