U. of Hong Kong official to present April 21 seminar

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Lee Chack Fan, pro-vice chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, is visiting the United States from April 18-30 as the 2004-05 Hong Kong Fulbright Distinguished Lecturer. He will present a seminar, sponsored by the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), in McManus Lounge, Hollister Hall, Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m.

The purpose of his visit is to speak at U.S. institutions on the topic of "Meeting Rising Community Expectations -- From Landslide Prevention to Harbor Enhancement in Hong Kong." He will describe efforts to satisfy community concerns regarding development of reclaimed land around Victoria Harbour. His comments will highlight the use of environmentally friendly approaches to reclamation and slope preservation as well as coordination between the government and local residents.
