ILR School, Cornell New York to confer on health care

The ILR School is partnering with Cornell's Clinical and Translational Science Center, Cooperative Extension-New York City and Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) in an international health care reform conference May 11-12 in New York City.

"A Time for Change: Restructuring America's Health Care Delivery System" in New York City is designed for health care practitioners, management and labor leaders, researchers and policymakers.

"This conference comes at a critical phase of President Obama's health care reform initiatives. It provides an opportunity to examine delivery system changes that will improve patient care, reduce costs and increase the integration of care," said Peter Lazes, director of ILR's Health Care Transformation Project.

Fifteen panels of health care experts from the United States and Europe will discuss creating integrated delivery systems; engaging the work force; and using technology to improve patient care.

Keynote speakers are Cornell president and cardiologist David Skorton and Dr. Jay Crosson of Kaiser Permanente, vice chairman of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.

Presenters include Dr. Julianne Imperato-McGinley of the Clinical and Translational Science Center at WCMC and professor of medicine at the college and Dr. Rainu Kaushal, associate professor of pediatrics, medicine and public health and chief of the Division of Quality and Medical Informatics at WCMC.

Participating organizations include almost one dozen health care institutions, including ones from Sweden and Italy.
