August 2006

Class of 2010 moves in

The circle of (academic) life begins again as the Class of 2010 arrives

The first days on campus were busy ones for new students, starting Aug. 18. In addition to moving in and getting registered, they met fellow newcomer to campus President David Skorton, who challenged them to broaden their horizons. The students also discussed the New Student Reading Project book, "The Great Gatsby." Read the stories:

Inauguration: View Cornell history in the making

With great expectations, Cornell will officially enter "the Skorton era" on Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. In a lively and colorful ceremony on the Arts Quad, David J. Skorton will be inaugurated as Cornell's 12th president. Inauguration events kick off Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. with an academic symposium, "Culture, Identity and Conflict in World Affairs," featuring Robert Kagan, an expert on U.S. foreign policy and national security. Both the inauguration ceremony and the symposium will be webcast live on the Cornell Web site. Visit http://www.cornell.edu/ on the day of the event for a link to the webcast. Read about the upcoming festivities at Chronicle Online, and check your e-mail in box Sept. 8 for a special issue of this newsletter with inauguration coverage.
