McGovern Center names three executives in residence

Three new executives in residence, charged with facilitating commercialization of Cornell technologies, have joined the staff of the Kevin M. McGovern Family Center for Venture Development in the Life Sciences.

Jonathan Greene, Edward Heslop and William Rhodes III began their appointments Feb. 7 at the center, which is an early-stage life sciences company incubator located in Weill Hall.

“These are exquisitely talented individuals,” said McGovern Center Director Lou Walcer. “Each has been very successful as an entrepreneur, leader, executive and consultant in life science ventures. They have the training, experience, ability and willingness to identify new ‘venture capable’ Cornell life science technologies. Their arrival signals a major addition to the center’s program and capabilities.”

Greene has been an active entrepreneur in the energy technology sector since graduating from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management in 2004. His background is in real estate finance and consulting. He serves as CEO of venture capital-funded Cornell startup Widetronix, which is developing ultra low-power, solid-state sensors for defense, industrial and medical implant applications.

Heslop has more than 30 years of entrepreneurial experience in agriculture, biotech (the company Paracelsian) and “green tech” (AnAerobics/Ecovation and Environmental Credit Corp.). He serves as managing director at Schwartz Heslin Group.

Rhodes, named senior executive in residence, serves as operating partner with Linden Capital Partners, focusing on the diagnostics and life science tools sectors. He had previously served as worldwide president of Becton-Dickinson Corp.’s $1.4 billion biosciences division and senior vice president of corporate strategy and development. There, he was responsible for all corporate mergers and acquisitions activities as well as managing BD Ventures, the company’s corporate venture fund.
