CU scores high in six categories as a great place to work

The Chronicle of Higher Education cited Cornell six times in its "Great Colleges to Work for 2008" rankings. The newspaper polled more than 15,000 administrators, faculty and staff members at 89 colleges and universities for the survey. Questionnaires were administered online in March and April 2008.

Among large institutions with 2,500 or more employees, Cornell scored as one of the top five schools in the following categories:

  • Professional/career development -- employees are given opportunities to develop skills and understand requirements to advance their careers;
  • Teaching environment -- faculty members say Cornell recognizes innovative and high-quality teaching;
  • Compensation and benefits -- pay is fair, and benefits meet the needs of employees;
  • Facilities and security -- appearance of the campus is pleasing, and Cornell takes steps to provide a secure environment;
  • Respect and admiration -- employees are regularly recognized for contributions; and
  • Career development, research and scholarship -- adequate time is given for scholarly pursuits.

The results are published in the July 18 issue of the newspaper and appear online at http://chronicle.com/weekly/v54/i45/45b00501.htm.
