Funeral services announced for Mariel Christie '10

Mariel Christie '10 of Clifton Park, N.Y., who graduated from Cornell this past May with a B.S. in biological sciences from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, died in Ithaca on Sunday, July 11.

While at Cornell, Christie was awarded for her work as a student assistant at the Comstock Entomology Library, she was a peer mentor in the Cornell Office of Minority Educational Affairs, and she was an active member of Ecology House and the Cornell Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program. A lover of horses and other animals, she also worked at the university's Oxley Equestrian Center.

"I want to extend my sincere condolences to the grieving family and friends of Mariel Christie, on behalf of the Cornell community," said Susan Murphy, vice president for student and academic services. "A recent graduate, Mariel was an active and valued member of our Cornell family. She remains in our thoughts and prayers."

Christie's family has announced funeral services for Saturday, July 17: There will be a wake from 11 to 12:30 p.m. at New Corner Cannon Funeral Home (518-456-4442), 342 New Karmer Road, in Colonie, N.Y., followed by a Celebration of Life from about 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Albany Church of Christ (518-482-0547), 30 Russell Road, in Albany, N.Y. Services at Memory's Garden (518-869-9506), a cemetery at 963 Waterviliet-Shaker Road in Albany, will follow between about 3 and 3:30 p.m., and all are invited to a repast scheduled for 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Albany Church of Christ.
