Saturday's (May 27) Commencement highlights included Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine's Hooding Ceremony, ROTC commissioning and the Cornell President and Trustees Parent Reception.

The Veterinary College's annual hooding ceremony, which took place at 2 p.m. at the Friedman Wrestling Center, honored the graduating class of 106, including 85 veterinarians, six interns and 15 residents who completed their programs.

Robert Gilbert, senior associate dean in the College of Veterinary Medicine, delivered a brief address. Wayne Warriner, president of the New York State Veterinarian Medical Society, administered the veterinarian's oath to the graduating class. Thomas Divers, professor of clinical sciences and the 2006 Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher, delivered a speech.

Earlier in the day, separate military commissioning ceremonies were held by the Air Force, the Army and the Navy. The naval commissioning ceremony, in Statler Auditorium, began with the "Navy Hymn," sung by Cornell University Glee Club, and ended with a salute ceremony, at which the 12 newly commissioned officers followed tradition by presenting a silver dollar to the first person to salute them, in this case a Marine gunnery sergeant.

On Saturday afternoon, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. under large tents on the Arts Quad, Cornell President Hunter Rawlings, chairman of the Cornell Board of Trustees Peter Meinig and other trustees hosted the President and Trustees Parent Reception. Light refreshments were served and a wind ensemble played.
