Reunion, June 7-10, welcomes alumni from 1932 to 2002
Close to 6,000 alumni from the Classes of 1932 to 2002 and their guests are expected for Cornell's Reunion Weekend 2007, June 7-10.
"The alumni volunteers have spent a great deal of time and effort and creativity to produce wonderful programs for each of their classes," said Cathy Hogan '70, associate director of class and reunion programs in the Office of Alumni Affairs. "Our reunions are so terrific and successful because of what they [the volunteers] have done and planned."
Fun in the Sun, a family-oriented event June 9 on the Arts Quad, is organized by the Classes of '97, '92 and '87.
Other highlights of Reunion Weekend 2007 include:
- The annual Olin Lecture, June 8 at 3 p.m. in Bailey Hall, will be out of this world, as Jim Bell, associate professor of astronomy and a member of the Mars Rover team, presents "Postcards From the Solar System: The Next 50 Years of Space Exploration." Bell's talk is free and open to the public.
- President David Skorton will deliver the State of the University address to registered alumni and their guests, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Bailey Hall.
- The return to campus of the recently restored Jacques Lipchitz sculpture "Song of the Vowels" will be celebrated June 8 at 3:30 p.m. on the plaza between Olin and Uris libraries.
- Entertainment for alumni includes the Savage Club variety show, June 7 at 8:30 p.m. in Statler Auditorium; and Cornelliana Night, June 9 at 9:30 p.m. in Bailey Hall.
- In conjunction with the Ezra Cornell bicentennial exhibition, President Emeritus Frank H.T. Rhodes will lecture on the founder's legacy and the future of higher education, June 7 at 4 p.m. in Lewis Auditorium, Goldwin Smith Hall. A reception will follow in Kroch Library's Hirshland Gallery.
- The College of Arts and Sciences will present a current events roundtable, "America and the World," June 8 at 2:30 p.m. in G10 Biotechnology Building.
- Several classes will sponsor forums, including "The Cornell Experience 50 Years Apart," June 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Robert Purcell Community Center auditorium, hosted by the Classes of 1952 and 2002. Dave Price '87 will present "'I Sent You to Cornell for This?' A Strange Journey from Cornell to CBS News," at the Class of 1987/ILR joint forum, June 9 at 3 p.m. in Statler Auditorium.
