Reunion 2008 to feature journalist Claire Shipman, plus a host of activities

Thousands of Cornell alumni from class years 1933-2003 will descend on campus for this year's Reunion, June 5-8.

A highlight among many activities will be the Olin Lecture, June 6 at 3 p.m. in Bailey Hall. Claire Shipman, senior national correspondent for "Good Morning America," will deliver a public lecture, "The Road to the White House 2008."

Also, Cornell President David J. Skorton will give the State of the University address June 7 at 10:30 a.m. in Bailey Hall. All registered alumni and their guests are welcome, and no tickets are required.

All alumni are invited to join the Alumnae Chorus and the Alumni Glee Club for Cornelliana Night, featuring songs of Cornell, June 7 at 9:30 p.m. in Bailey Hall.

Colleges and organizations also will host a variety of events, including:

  • A current events roundtable, "America and the World: Foreign Policy Issues for the Next President," with Peter Katzenstein, the Walter S. Carpenter Jr. Professor of International Studies; David Patel, assistant professor of government; and Nicolas van de Walle, the John S. Knight Professor of International Studies, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. in G10 Biotechnology Building.
  • Continuing Law Education Program panel, "Real Estate and the Housing Market: Has the Bubble Burst and What Are the Ramifications?" June 6, 2:30 p.m., B09 Sage Hall, co-sponsored by the Johnson School. The event will feature Jennifer Schultz '03, staff attorney, Community Legal Services; and David J. Wagner '83, vice president and senior associate general counsel, Mack-Cali Realty Corp.; and Johnson School panelists.
  • Singles' Reception, June 6 at 4:15 p.m. in the Arts Quad tent near Sibley Hall.
  • A talk by Francis J. DiSalvo, the John A. Newman Professor of Physical Science, co-director of the Cornell Fuel Cell Institute and director of the Cornell Center for a Sustainable Future, speaking on "The Energy Crisis: What Kind of Crisis and What Can Cornell Do about It?" June 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the Philip E. Lewis Auditorium in Goldwin Smith Hall.
  • The Reunion Run, June 7 at 7:30 a.m. at Garden Avenue near Barton Hall; open to all alumni, guests, and university staff and faculty. Preregister using the athletics brochure for a two-mile or five-mile course.
  • The Liberty Hyde Bailey Lecture, "Are You Really Going to Eat That? Adventures in Exploring the Microbiological Safety of the Food Supply," by Kathryn Boor '80, June 7 at 9 a.m. in Call Auditorium, Kennedy Hall.
  • A discussion led by Professors Robert Harris Jr. and N'Dri Assié-Lumumba titled "The Intersection of Race and Gender in American Politics," June 7 at 1:15 p.m. in 101 West Sibley Hall.
  • A presentation by Theodore J. Lowi, the John L. Senior Professor of American Institutions; Joel H. Silbey, President White Professor of History Emeritus; and Michael Jones-Correa, professor of government, titled "Winners and Losers in the Presidential Election of 2008," June 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Uris Hall Auditorium.
