October 2007

At a moment in American higher education when faculty retirements, student scholarship aid and investments in education challenge every institution, Cornell has received 14 major new gifts totaling $71.5 million that include the largest donations in the university's history to the arts and humanities. The latest gifts send the university's $4 billion capital campaign past the $1 billion mark for the Ithaca campus and boost the overall campaign (including Weill Cornell Medical College) to nearly $1.8 billion.
CU welcomes leaders in religion, literature and law in October
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama brought his message of peace and compassion to a sold-out Barton Hall, Oct. 9, while British novelist Salman Rushdie paid tribute to Cornell writers during his Oct. 18 reading. And retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor spent her time as the Law School's jurist in residence, Oct. 21-23, engaging with students on campus and in the community.

wrong. For more information, contact Shannon Murray at shm4@cornell.edu or go online at http://www.csv.cornell.edu.
