Slammin' Yamz!, Beehive Crunch and Sticky Bunz -- Cornell-student-developed ice cream flavors -- were showcased Oct. 7 in the Russell Senate Building in the nation's capital as part of a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) exhibition at New York Farm Days.

The annual event, initiated by former N.Y. Sen. Hillary Clinton and this year hosted by N.Y. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, showcases the diversity of New York agriculture to members of the New York congressional delegation, Congressional committees on agriculture and legislative staff. Launched in 2002 to inform national policymakers that New York is a major agricultural state by featuring the state's wines, farm products, seafood and restaurants, the event drew more than 50 exhibitors from New York state and 600 guests.

The exhibition featured the college's undergraduate teaching program to show how CALS prepares leaders for New York's agricultural industries, said Lee Telega, a senior extension associate in animal science.
