President David Skorton and Provost Kent Fuchs

President, provost continue strategic planning meetings

President David Skorton and Provost Kent Fuchs continued their series of town-hall meetings with faculty, staff and students in September, explaining the ongoing development of the strategic plan and taking questions from audience members. At a Sept. 16 faculty forum, Skorton stressed the need for the university to erase a projected $215 million deficit, pointing out that faculty members must regain the resources they need to fulfill their academic aspirations. Students at a Sept. 17 forum wanted to know whether the "Reimagining Cornell" planning process was really just a way to make program cuts.

'Got Soap?' campaign gives students the upper (and clean) hand against flu

Vishn Patel distributes soap on Ho Plaza Handing out 6,300 bars of soap, Vishnu Patel '10 and other student volunteers from Cornell University Emergency Medical Service launched their campaign Sept. 18 as a way to tell students that hand washing is an effective way to prevent flu. The Cornell community has been reaching out to ill students, delivering meals and flu kits from Gannett Health Services. More than 700 students have had the flu since the semester began, Gannett reports.
