Cornell Outdoor Education wins excellence award
For the second time in 11 years, Cornell Outdoor Education (COE) has been named winner of the David J. Webb Program Excellence Award, given annually by the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education.
Established in 1972, COE aims to develop teamwork, leadership and growth through outdoor experience. COE serves more than 20,000 participants annually and offers more than 130 courses, in backpacking, canoeing, climbing, hiking, kayaking, Nordic skiing, wilderness first aid and more. Most are student-taught and available for physical education credit.
The award recognizes an outstanding nonprofit outdoor program that has provided dynamic and innovative services to its participants, demonstrated professionalism and high standards of conduct and contributed to the outdoor community at large by sharing information and assisting other programs. The nominee must be a current AORE member in good standing.
“This recognition is a testament to the efforts of our entire team, our student instructors and our alumni. We're proud and honored to serve and be part of Cornell’s own mission of ‘Any person, any study,’” said Marc Magnus-Sharpe, the Lindseth Director of Cornell Outdoor Education.
