Scientists in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences are using the facilities and expertise of the Cornell Theory Center to turn reams of weather and climate data into practical advice for New York farmers.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- There are some computer problems so hard that computer scientists consider them out of reach. They label them "intractable" and move on. But researchers at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., have developed tools to solve such problems, at least in certain practical situations. Mostly their approach is to have the computer do what a human being might do: stop, go back and start over and try something different.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will be the first federal organization to use VIVO, a Web application conceived and developed at Cornell, to help scientists network and find potential collaborators. (Oct. 28, 2010)
