Cornell Board of Trustees seats five new members

Several new members will join the Cornell University Board of Trustees July 1. Richard A. Baker '88 was appointed to his first four-year term. Elizabeth C. Everett ’97 and Michael A. Troy ’81 have been elected by alumni to four-year terms as alumni trustees. Annie Devaney O’Toole, J.D. ’16, has been elected a graduate student trustee, and Mariana F. Wolfner ’74 has been chosen by the faculty as a faculty trustee.

Baker is governor and CEO of Hudson’s Bay Company, the longest continuously running retail company in North America, which operates Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord and Taylor and other stores. He served two terms on the Cornell University Council, is a member of the Major Gifts Committee, and serves on several councils and advisory boards at Cornell, including the Baker Program in Real Estate.

Everett is managing director in global research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and also has served as a leader of Bank of America’s on-campus recruiting efforts with Cornell. She serves as vice chair of the President’s Council of Cornell Women, as a member of the Cornell University Council and as a member of the Athletics Advisory Council.

O’Toole is a member of the Women’s Law Coalition and the Cornell Law School Democrats and was a participant in the Langfan Family First Year Moot Court Competition. She will serve on the board’s Committee on Academic Affairs, Committee on Student Life and the Trustee Community Communications Committee, as well as on the Presidential Search Committee.

Troy spent 27 years at Goldman Sachs, becoming managing director in 1997 and partner in 2002. He retired in 2010 but returned in May 2014 as an advisory director and global head of alumni relations. He is a visiting lecturer in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and serves on the Athletics Advisory Council and the Dyson School Undergraduate Advisory Council.

Wolfner is the Goldwin Smith Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics and a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow. She is a Rawlings House Fellow at Alice Cook House and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She has received the Robert A. and Donna B. Paul Award and Stephen and Margery Russell Award from Cornell for teaching and advising.

Tata ’59, B.Arch. ’62, Sheryl Hilliard Tucker ’78 and Jan Rock Zubrow ’77 were re-elected for an additional term.
