'Science in the Supermarket: Consumer Issues with Genetically Modified Organisms' is topic of April 18 symposium at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y.-- The Cornell University Institute of Food Science and the Central New York Institute of Food Technologists will present a symposium, "Science in the Supermarket: Consumer Issues with Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)," at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, at the Robert Purcell Community Center on the university's North Campus.

The symposium speakers include:

-- Roy L. Fuchs of Monsanto Corp. and Michael Hansen of the Consumers' Union: the technology of GMOs and consumer food safety.

-- Jane Andrews, corporate nutritionist for Wegman's Supermarkets: the retailers' perspective on GMOs.

-- Sylvia Rowe, president of the International Food Information Council: consumer understanding of food biotechnology.
