'Science in the Supermarket: Consumer Issues with Genetically Modified Organisms' is topic of April 18 symposium at Cornell

The Cornell University Institute of Food Science and the Central New York Institute of Food Technologists will present a symposium, "Science in the Supermarket: Consumer Issues with Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)," at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, at the Robert Purcell Community Center on the university's North Campus.

The symposium speakers include:

  • Roy L. Fuchs of Monsanto Corp. and Michael Hansen of the Consumers' Union: the technology of GMOs and consumer food safety.
  • Jane Andrews, corporate nutritionist for Wegman's Supermarkets: the retailers' perspective on GMOs.
  • Sylvia Rowe, president of the International Food Information Council: consumer understanding of food biotechnology.
