'Legacy of Leadership' exhibits in three Cornell libraries celebrate the university's presidential inauguration tradition

ITHACA, N.Y. -- In honor of the inauguration of the 11th president of Cornell University, Jeffrey S. Lehman, Cornell University Library will feature three special exhibits on campus, together titled "Legacy of Leadership: Cornell's Eleven Presidents."

The exhibits, on display in the university's Olin, Kroch and Uris libraries from Oct. 13 through the end of the fall semester, will highlight the achievements of each of Cornell's presidents, through historical letters, documents and photographs. The displays also will include short histories of each Cornell inauguration ceremony.

Display cases in Uris Library will present biographical information about Cornell's presidents and illustrate milestones, activities and important events during their administrations.

Images of each president, from Andrew Dickson White to Jeffrey Lehman, will be on display outside Olin Library's new Current Periodicals Room (Room 101). Display cases outside the Olin Café, in the Kroch Library's hallway and in the rotunda of the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections in Kroch Library, will include images of the university symbols featured at Cornell inaugurations -- the Charter, the University Mace and the Seal of the University -- as well as programs, tickets, seating charts, menus and other memorabilia from past inaugurations. Of particular interest is a beaded dress worn by Edith Marks Wilson, wife of Law Professor Lyman P. Wilson, at the inaugural dinner for Cornell President Livingston Farrand in 1921.
