Bridgette Brady, director of transportation services at Washington State University (WSU), has been named Cornell’s new director of Transportation Services. She starts March 31.

“Bridgette is a leader in the field of transportation with proven accomplishments and results,” said KyuJung Whang, vice president for facilities services. “She has worked in WSU’s transportation office for over 20 years, working her way up through the ranks from an enforcement officer to the last five years as the director.”

Brady recently was elected to the International Parking Institute’s Board of Directors and is president of the Pacific Intermountain Transportation and Parking Association.

Whang noted that Brady’s accomplishments are numerous, but the ones that most struck him were the implementation of a comprehensive city/campus bike plan and development of transportation programs including contracts for fixed route transit services, coach service and shuttle providers, ridesharing, car-sharing, vanpool, park and rides, guaranteed ride home and active transportation.

“She has transformed the department from a parking-centric one to one that is strategic and transportation demand management focused – very much in line with what I am trying to do at Cornell,” he said.

He noted that in the interview process, Brady addressed sustainability in transportation and expressed enthusiasm in supporting Cornell’s climate initiative. With President David Skorton’s support of attaining carbon neutrality on campus by 2035, Whang said, sustainable transportation is going to require renewed attention and a new focus going forward.

Whang thanked Ben Kuo, who has served as interim director for seven months. “Ben led the department through some major initiatives that needed to be implemented, including the insourcing of the Campus-to-Campus bus service, while providing steadfast leadership to the department’s staff. Ben’s performance has been nothing short of exceptional.”
