Provost names Robert Smith interim ILR dean

Provost Kent Fuchs issued the following statement Oct. 24:

President David Skorton announced this morning that Harry Katz, the Kenneth F. Kahn Dean of the ILR School, has been appointed to serve as interim provost effective Nov. 14. Dean Katz is an excellent choice for this role, and I have every confidence that he will be successful.

During this transition, Robert Smith, ILR associate dean, professor of economics and a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, will serve as the school’s interim dean. Smith currently oversees academic affairs at ILR and previously has served as interim dean for the school. He has been an associate dean for almost 30 years and has in-depth knowledge of ILR academic and administrative operations.

A search chaired by Vice Provost Judith Appleton currently is underway for ILR’s next dean – Katz had announced that his tenure as dean would end June 30, 2015 – and Smith will serve in the interim role until a new ILR dean is named.
